Packing is challenging, especially if you’re a woman! It’s hard enough to know what “essentials” to pack much less decide on which accessories you need to forgo in order to avoid paying extra luggage fees! With these beauty packing hacks, you can pack like a pro AND still take all of your (beauty) essentials.
- Download the PackPoint App
While this isn’t exactly a “beauty” hack, the Pack Point app is just as useful. This app takes the guesswork out of packing because it organizes a list of essential items based on the length of your trip, weather conditions, and activities. Best yet? The app is FREE.
Once you have figured out what exactly you need to pack, you can begin too add your other..ahem* “essentials,” like beauty products and accessories.
2. Prevent jewelry from tangling
It is inevitable that jewelry will tangle, especially when you’re traveling. You can avoid this with a cheap fix — plastic wrap. Take a piece of plastic wrap. Lay your jewelry on the plastic wrap. Fold the plastic wrap over the jewelry to make little “pockets.” Now, your jewelry is secure!
Tip: Use Glad “Press and Seal.”
3. Put earrings and other small jewelry in pill containers
Earrings and other small jewelry can be easily lost when traveling. You can avoid this by putting them in pill containers for easy transport.
4. Use buttons to hold your earrings
Buttons are cheap, and are a great alternative to pill containers. A great way to use those extra buttons is to use them as earring anchors.
5. Fill contact lens containers with product
Contact lens containers are the perfect light-weight solution for carrying products. You can put a range of things in them, including foundation, lotion, or even night creams.
6. Make your own travel toiletries
I wish I had learned this years ago! With new airlines regulations, I have (sadly) had to dispose of many toiletries because they didn’t meet TSA guidelines. Now, you can actually make your own individually-wrapped toiletries!
All you’ll need is a straw, lighter and pliers. Clamp the end of the straw with the pliers. Run the lighter over the straw’s end. Insert product into the straw pouch. Run the flame over the other end. Voila! You have your very own travel-sized products.
Tip: Label each of your travel-sized products with a permanent marker.
7. Prevent your products from popping
Prevent your products from the exploding on all your clothes with plastic wrap. Wrap the plastic wrap under the lid and then screw the top on tight
Tip: Again, Glad “Press and Seal” wrap works brilliantly for this sort of thing.
8. Stash your cash
Ok, so maybe this exactly a beauty hack. BUT let’s be honest, bum bags are definitely not a beauty trend. So, where else can you put your money for safe keeping? Empty Chapstick containers make for an excellent place to hide money. Click here to watch how you can make your own!
9. Wrap shoes in shower caps
Cover the soles of your shoes with a shower cap. This prevents the shoes from making your clothes dirty.
10. Protect your razor with a binder clip
Clip a binder clip to the blade of the razor. This will protect the blades of the razor.
11. Store your hot irons in a hot pad
Store your curling irons and hair straighteners in a hot pad.
12. Prevent powder makeup from breaking apart
Powdered makeup is great, until it breaks apart, which almost inevitably happens when traveling! To prevent this, place a cotton pad on top of the powder.
If it is already broken, not to worry! You can still fix this by adding a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the powder. Mash all the broken pieces together. Use the back of a spoon to press down the mixture and smooth the makeup back into the compact. Let it dry. Voila! Good as new.
13. Use dryer sheets to keep clothes smelling fresh
Dryer sheets are multipurpose. Did you know you could also use them to keep clothes smelling fresh? Place a few dryer sheets in between clothes to give them that “just clean” smell, even if you’ve been traveling for days.
14. Tic Tac Box bobby-pins
You can upcycle an old Tic Tac Box to hold bobby-pins.
