About

Hello Globetrotters!

My name is Chentel and I am the founder of this website. I am delighted to share my travel tips and experiences with you!

I hope my blog helps you to answer some of the questions that come to mind when planning travels, such as: Where should I go? What should I do and see when I get there? How do I get around once I am there? Where should I save…and splurge? And so my blog was born!

  • Where do I begin??

I guess with my love of traveling. I am a self-professed travel addict. I LOVE to travel! Like most, traveling was something that seemed out reach, and traveling the world seemed even more so. I dreamt of traveling the world. (But only rich people can afford to do that, right?)

I also bought into the expectations of society: go to college, get a good job, get married, buy a house, and have kids. I went to college, I got a good (teaching) job, I got married, and I bought a house. I had the ‘perfect life,’ with the exception of having kids, of course.

In reality, my life was far from perfect. I worked 16-hour days between jobs, just to live paycheck-to-paycheck. I was tired and burnt out, and so became my relationship. That same year, I was laid-off as a result of budget cuts in my school district. I nearly lost everything I worked so hard to have. I realized that wallowing in my grief would be to no avail.

So, I decided to make a drastic change in my life: I pursued a teaching job abroad, sold my belongings, rented my house, packed my clothes and went on a journey of a lifetime!

  • Unlike some travel websites, I do not get paid for my content.I finance my travels with my own cold-hard earned cash.

I do not splurge on fancy hotels or drinks. I eat street food and stay at hostels to offset the price of other travel expenses. In my day-to-day life, I live like a backpacker. I save where I can in every effort to see as much of the world as I can. You can read more about the 20 ways I save to travel here

Also, I teach abroad, which has enabled me to travel to bucketlist destinations and pay my bills. (How cool is that?)
